Artificial Insemination

This procedure consists in placing sperm directly in the woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization.

ICSl

The injection of a single sperm directly into an egg under a microscope using micromanipulation devices has allowed many couples who never would have gotten pregnant to conceive a child.

PGD

It is now possible to evaluate the chromosomal and genetic features of embryonic cells in their very first stages.

Assisted Fertilization

If a couple has not gotten pregnant after one year of sexual relations without protection, there is a 90% chance that they will need medical assistance in order to be able to have a baby.

When a couple arrives for a consultation, the CER specialists do a full medical and psychological history of the couple. Later, both will undergo a series of blood and hormone tests as well as semen analysis and studies on the male and female reproductive organs in order to diagnose the problem. The most common studies include:

- Blood tests
Blood type, RH factor, coagulation tests, iron levels, immunological markers, levels of different hormones (FSH, LH, estradiol, prolactin, thyroidal hormones, progesterone, testosterone).

- Gynecological ultrasound

- Spermogram
A fresh semen sample is taken to measure the volume ejaculated, the PH level of the semen and the sperm count, as well as their motility and physical characteristics.  A test is also done to detect antibodies.

- Hysteroscopy
A study of the uterus.

- Hysterosalpingography
A radiological procedure to examine the fallopian tubes and the uterus.

- Laparoscopy
When there is a possibility of severe endometriosis or ovarian cists, an optical instrument is inserted to observe the interior of the reproductive organs.

- Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
The PGD is done if there is a family history of hereditary illnesses or the woman is over 35. It is also done if the spermogram is irregular.
